Muscle & Fitness

Muscle and Fitness Magazine

Muscle & Fitness magazine is one of the oldest bodybuilding publications on the market, having been started in the great Depression (1936) and has risen to the very top of the bodybuilding/fitness genre. One of the biggest names in bodybuilding, Joe Weider, gave the magazine its start.

Although Muscle & Fitness incorporates quite a bit of hard core bodybuilding, it is geared more toward the middle of the road in spanning the bodybuilding and fitness lifestyle. That is, it is not solely devoted to competition bodybuilding but delves into the sideline effects of bodybuilding. It includes features on top stars from other sports who incorporate bodybuilding into their training routines, as well as movie stars or professional wrestlers who do the same. In addition, the female figure athletes are also in the magazine on a consistent basis (and there is a Muscle & Fitness Hers edition that devotes the entire magazine to female training).

Muscle & Fitness features the latest in various training styles that employ resistance training, cardio/aerobic workouts and nutrition. For example, an edition will feature both CrossFit routines and hard core bodybuilding routines in the same magazine. The magazine also set up specific features, such as the strongest men in the NFL.

The magazine has provided a format for all of the top stars of the related International Federation of Bodybuilders during the Weider years and the top stars workouts got top billing and vast international exposure.

With its broader subject range, Muscle & Fitness has had the most commercial presence and success in the fitness/bodybuilding magazine market, having made it to the top and stayed there for the longest period of time. It is the one bodybuilding style magazine most likely to be found in your local grocery store, for instance.
