Frank Zane Bodybuilding Biography

Frank Zane The Chemist Mr. Olympia 1977, 1978 and 1979

Frank Zane was born on June 28, 1942 in Kingston, Pennsylvania USA and is without a doubt the representation of the two different extremes that are found in bodybuilding. He won the professional bodybuilding championships of Mr.Olympia three times.

Frank was known as "The Chemist" to his fans and friends and from 1977 to 1979 he was the aesthetical representation of what bodybuilding should be. Coming on stage with a perfectly balanced physique at 5'9" competing at over 195 pounds of muscles ripped to shreds.

Frank got his nickname because he was a popular mathematics and a chemistry teacher who got his B.sc degree from Wilkes University in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania in 1964. Later in life he studied farther and eventually was awarded a Master's degree in Experimental Psychology from Cal State SB, California in 1990.

The reason why he got his nickname was not only because he used to take a lot of amino acids which was unusual in those days, but also because he was extremely scientific about his diet and exercise and peaking at exactly the right time for a competition year after year.

Frank continued to win many competitions despite working and studying as a teacher he finally retired from professional bodybuilding in 1982 after coming in second place at the 1982 Mr.Olympia. But Frank continued to be very active in the sport of bodybuilding and continued to make an enormous contribution.

He officially retired in 1983 but continued to write as well as produce videos and produced and acted as an IFBB Announcer in the movie "See Arnold Run" in 2005. Frank has also produced many training courses on bodybuilding and how to create an aesthetic physique as well as a few books.

Frank Zane was the first bodybuilder to be inducted at the annual Joe Weider Hall of Fame. He also received similar recognition for his contribution to bodybuilding when he received the Arnold Schwarzenegger award for a lifetime achievement at the 2003 Arnold Classic.

Frank and his lifelong love and wife Christine own and operated the Zane Haven which is in Palm Springs, CA where they conducted one-on-one sessions with many clients that were specifically interested in creating a symmetrical physique. But today the two of them live in San Diego, CA where they own and run what they call a learning centre called the Zane Experience.
